A comparison of real-time radial GRAPPA and standard cine imaging for the evaluation of cardiac function in children and young adults

چکیده
Background Segmented balanced steady state free precession (bSSFP) cine imaging is the gold standard MRI technique for assessing ventricular systolic function. The image acquisition involves ECG gating and is ideally performed during breath-hold to reduce artifacts from myocardial and respiratory motion. Real-time radial imaging with parallel imaging technique GRAPPA reconstruction (radial GRAPPA) utilizes a radial data collection scheme in combination with a through-time k-space GRAPPA technique to achieve high acceleration rates. As it is acquired during free-breathing and is not ECG-gated, it has the potential to dramatically shorten cardiac functional imaging time. As radial GRAPPA has previously only been validated in adult patients, our purpose is to compare image quality between bSSFP and radial GRAPPA for evaluating cardiac function in children and young adults.

Highly accelerated real-time T2-weighted imaging with through-time radial GRAPPA and low-latency GPU reconstruction
Background T2-weighted cardiac images are commonly used for edema detection [1-4]. However, neither black-blood TSE nor cine images can offer real-time edema monitoring, and are therefore not suitable for the guidance of cardiac ablation procedures. We proposed a radial T2weighted interrupted balanced SSFP (rT2W-iSSFP), a real-time high temporal resolution sequence targeted at monitoring edema.
متن کاملEvaluation of left ventricular ejection fraction using through-time radial GRAPPA
BACKGROUND The determination of left ventricular ejection fraction using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) requires a steady cardiac rhythm for electrocardiogram (ECG) gating and multiple breathholds to minimize respiratory motion artifacts, which often leads to scan times of several minutes. The need for gating and breathholding can be eliminated by employing real-time CMR methods such a...
متن کاملThrough-time 3D radial GRAPPA for whole heart cardiac imaging
Background Through-Time Non-Cartesian GRAPPA has been previously demonstrated for real-time 2D cardiac imaging (Seiberlich, et al. Magn Reson Med. 2011 Feb;65(2):492505.). This parallel imaging method works by acquiring several fully-sampled non-Cartesian datasets with a low temporal resolution, and using the coil sensitivity information from these datasets to reconstruct highly undersampled no...
متن کاملAccelerated 2D multi-slice first-pass contrast-enhanced myocardial perfusion using through-time radial GRAPPA
Background Non-Cartesian parallel imaging is a promising approach for reducing the scan time in multi-slice first-pass myocardial perfusion imaging, allowing increasing volumetric coverage in comparison with standard techniques. Through-time radial GRAPPA has previously been demonstrated for real-time functional cardiac imaging [Seiberlich, et al. MRM 2011 Feb;65 (2):492-505]. In this work, the...
متن کاملImproved radial GRAPPA calibration for real-time free-breathing cardiac imaging.
To generate real-time, nongated, free-breathing cardiac images, the undersampled radial trajectory combined with parallel imaging in the form of radial GRAPPA has shown promise. However, this method starts to fail at high undersampling factors due to the assumptions that must be made for the purposes of calibrating the GRAPPA weight sets. In this manuscript, a novel through-time radial GRAPPA c...
